Our Lady of the Southern Cross Parish Prayer
Loving God,
You call our parish to be a safe community of love,
guided by the Holy Spirit
and committed to bringing people to Jesus.
Strengthen our sense of Mission,
that our words and actions may reveal Your Gospel.
Grow in us Compassion,
so we respond generously to every need we encounter.
Form us in Transparency,
helping us walk together in honesty, trust, and unity.
Inspire Excellence in all we offer You,
that our service may reflect Your glory.
Give us Courage
to listen to the Holy Spirit
and to act with faith and conviction.
As Your disciples,
help us grow through worship, learning, connection,
service, generosity,
and by leading others to Christ.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes?
Therefore, I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit.” (Matthew 21:42–43)
Reflect today on how to make this parable your personal calling. The Kingdom of God has been partly entrusted to you to be one who will labour for the salvation of souls—“a people that will produce its fruit.”
The work of evangelisation is an ongoing and urgent mission. In what ways is God calling you to work in His Divine Vineyard? Is it through faithful prayer, by which the vines of grace are pruned and nourished? Is it through the work of harvesting, where you draw others to Christ by your words, your witness, and your works of love? Is it through quiet perseverance in suffering, offered in union with the Crucified One?
However God calls you, do not delay. Receive His trust with humility, and labour with joy. The vineyard is His, but the fruit depends, in part, on you.

Working Together in the Mission of the Gospel
Archbishop Shane Mackinlay has announced a renewed leadership model for the Archdiocese of Brisbane, including a new Council of Vicars with opportunities for lay leadership. Building on the 2024 Archdiocesan Synod, these changes aim to strengthen collaboration and our shared service to the Church and wider community.
Please read the Archbishop’s full message and keep all those involved in your prayers.
Last week, 15 of our youth + our youth leaders were fortunate enough to attend Ignite Conference, one the most powerful Catholic youth conferences in Australia.
Our young people delved deep into the faith and were able to experience the power of the Holy Spirit through praise and worship, as well as through adoration and the sacraments.
Thank you to everyone who helped fundraise money for our youth to attend Ignite Conference. Your generosity means a lot for the spiritual lives of our young people.
God bless, Alonzo

Multicultural Mass this weekend
This weekend, Multicultural Masses will be celebrated on Saturday 5pm, Sunday 7am, 9am and 11am. Parishioners are welcome to wear traditional cultural attire as we celebrate our unity in Christ through the rich diversity of our community.
Filming and photography will take place during and after Masses for a documentary marking the 10th anniversary of our church in 2027.
Following each Mass, an Aussie BBQ provided by the parish will be served.
Together, we give thanks for the many nations, languages and traditions that enrich our parish.
Catechesis allows children 8 years of age and above who have possibly received the sacraments to engage with other children and share their faith.
It is separate to Southern Cross Kids, as it is catechetical. The children have snacks and mingle time for 10-15 mins before they focus on a 30 min catechetical program. At the end, there is a game to make it a fun experience for the kids. The content comes from mycatholicfaithdelivered.com. You can register your child after Mass for the next session starting next week October 11 following the 9am Mass (10.15am – 11.15am).

If you or your loved ones are unable to attend Mass due to sickness, age, or mobility challenges, we would be honoured to bring the presence of Christ to you. We can arrange for someone to visit, share the Gospel, pray with you, and offer Holy Communion. You are not forgotten—you remain a vital part of our parish family.
Please contact the parish office so we can extend this ministry of care to you. Let us journey together in faith, hope, and love, even from home.
Pray for Peace in the Middle East and the World
Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace, look with mercy upon the lands torn by conflict – Iran, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon and all the suffering places of the Middle East and the world.
Break the chains of hatred and violence; soften hardened hearts; guide the leaders of nations toward wisdom and justice.
Protect the innocent, comfort the grieving, heal the wounded and shelter the displaced.
Grant to every person the gift of true peace – peace in homes, peace in streets, peace in souls – so that swords may become ploughshares and the children of Abraham may live as one family.
Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us.
Did you know that every parishioner can access our parish subscription for free to Augustine Institute’s “FORMED” Catholic Streaming service, which offers trustworthy, high-quality content to nourish your relationship with Jesus Christ? We have received a report from Formed regarding the engagement of this wonderful resource by our parishioners and although many families are watching this Catholic content from more than 100 organisations to help explore their faith, many more could be taking up this subscription. Visit formed.org/signup to subscribe and select our parish, “Our Lady of the Southern Cross” to access these programs.
