Our Lady of the Southern Cross Parish Prayer
Loving God,
You call our parish to be a safe community of love,
guided by the Holy Spirit
and committed to bringing people to Jesus.
Strengthen our sense of Mission,
that our words and actions may reveal Your Gospel.
Grow in us Compassion,
so we respond generously to every need we encounter.
Form us in Transparency,
helping us walk together in honesty, trust, and unity.
Inspire Excellence in all we offer You,
that our service may reflect Your glory.
Give us Courage
to listen to the Holy Spirit
and to act with faith and conviction.
As Your disciples,
help us grow through worship, learning, connection,
service, generosity,
and by leading others to Christ.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

27 September 2026
Jesus said to the chief priests and elders of the people:
“What is your opinion? A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, ‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.’ He said in reply, ‘I will not,’ but afterwards changed his mind and went. The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, ‘Yes, sir,’ but did not go. Which of the two did his father’s will?” — (Matthew 21:28–31)
Reflection
Reflect today on the first son, and humbly see yourself in him. In what ways do you find it difficult to say “Yes” to God’s will right away? It is not a sin to struggle with obedience; this struggle is part of our fallen human nature.
Like the first son, we must allow grace to work within us—forming our conscience and gently leading us to act in accordance with God’s will, especially in the areas where we resist. When we allow grace to move us beyond our initial hesitation, we grow in virtue and become more like our Blessed Mother and our Lord Jesus, who both said “Yes” to the Father and followed through completely.

Vocations Holy Hour - Thursday 1 October, 6-7 pm
Join us in the church to pray for all vocations: priests, deacons, religious, married couples, and those called to single life. Let us ask the Lord to send workers into His harvest. All are welcome.
Holy Child Jesus - First Friday Novena/Mass
All parishioners and devotees are warmly invited to the First Friday Novena and Mass in honour of the Holy Child Jesus, to be presided by Fr Francis Belcina, OSA on Friday, 2 October from 5:45pm at St Monica’s Chapel, Augustine Heights.
Come and deepen your devotion, entrust your intentions, and grow in faith together as a community.
Our parish community is blessed by the many cultures that make up our faith family.
We invite everyone to join us for our Multicultural Mass celebrations at all weekend Masses: 5pm, 7am, 9am and 11am. We encourage parishioners to wear their traditional cultural attire as we celebrate our unity in Christ through the rich diversity of our community.
There will be filming and photography during and after Masses for a documentary to mark the 10th anniversary of our church in 2027.
Following each Mass, an Aussie BBQ will be served. This year, the parish will provide the food, so there is no need to bring a plate. We do need volunteers to be the hands and feet to prepare, cook and clean up after each mass, please register on the below link code. Help be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community.
Together, let us celebrate the many nations, languages and traditions that enrich our parish, giving thanks as one family of faith.

Our parish is seeking generous volunteers to assist in two important ministries that support our children and families in faith formation.
Catechesis Ministry Team (Sunday's during school term in the hub)
We are looking for volunteers to help from 10:15am to 11:15am on Sundays during the school term. This ministry supports our Catechesis program by assisting and helping create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for the children after the 9am Mass. To express interest: https://olscparish.flocknote.com/signup/272750
Baptism Preparation: Children’s Care (Sunday's during school term in the hub)
We are looking for volunteers to help from 10:20am to 12:00pm on Sundays during the school term for our Baptism Preparation sessions. This support allows parents to participate fully in the preparation sessions while ensuring their children are cared for in a safe and friendly setting. This will be four (4) alternate Sundays in a term. To express interest: https://olscparish.flocknote.com/signup/272582
If you are able to help, even occasionally, your support will make a meaningful difference to our parish families and the faith journey of our young children.

Care and Concern Ministry
Our parish Care and Concern Ministry is here to support you with compassion and faith. If you or your loved ones are unable to attend Mass due to sickness, age, or mobility challenges, we would be honoured to bring the presence of Christ to you. We can arrange for someone to visit, share the Gospel, pray with you, and offer Holy Communion. You are not forgotten—you remain a vital part of our parish family.

Pray for Peace in the Middle East and the World
Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace, look with mercy upon the lands torn by conflict – Iran, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon and all the suffering places of the Middle East and the world.
Break the chains of hatred and violence; soften hardened hearts; guide the leaders of nations toward wisdom and justice.
Protect the innocent, comfort the grieving, heal the wounded and shelter the displaced.
Grant to every person the gift of true peace – peace in homes, peace in streets, peace in souls – so that swords may become ploughshares and the children of Abraham may live as one family.
Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us.
Did you know that every parishioner can access our parish subscription for free to Augustine Institute’s “FORMED” Catholic Streaming service, which offers trustworthy, high-quality content to nourish your relationship with Jesus Christ? We have received a report from Formed regarding the engagement of this wonderful resource by our parishioners and although many families are watching this Catholic content from more than 100 organisations to help explore their faith, many more could be taking up this subscription. Visit formed.org/signup to subscribe and select our parish, “Our Lady of the Southern Cross” to access these programs.
