Our Lady of the Southern Cross Parish Prayer
Loving God,
You call our parish to be a safe community of love,
guided by the Holy Spirit
and committed to bringing people to Jesus.
Strengthen our sense of Mission,
that our words and actions may reveal Your Gospel.
Grow in us Compassion,
so we respond generously to every need we encounter.
Form us in Transparency,
helping us walk together in honesty, trust, and unity.
Inspire Excellence in all we offer You,
that our service may reflect Your glory.
Give us Courage
to listen to the Holy Spirit
and to act with faith and conviction.
As Your disciples,
help us grow through worship, learning, connection,
service, generosity,
and by leading others to Christ.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi and asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”
They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”— (Matthew 16:13–16)
Reflection
Reflect today on the significance of the papacy. Even now, in the successor of Saint Peter, the words of Simon continue to echo throughout the world: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
This is the pope’s first and most important duty: to bear witness to Christ, the Son of God. Despite the personal weaknesses of some popes and the saintliness of others, it is Jesus who established Peter and his successors as the visible foundation of the Church.
Pray for the Holy Father, and trust in the timeless witness of every pope since that first moment in Caesarea Philippi—a witness upheld not by human strength, but by Christ’s own promise. To profess faith in the papacy is to profess faith in the One who instituted it and endowed it with His divine authority.

This weekend, our parish will celebrate a very special milestone as 111 children receive their First Holy Communion at our Saturday 5pm Mass, Sunday 9am and 11am Masses. We congratulate our children and their families as they take this important step in their faith journey and receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time. May this be the beginning of a lifelong love for Christ and His Church. Let us keep them in our prayers as they continue to grow in faith.
Join us for Adoration, Confession, healing prayer and the Anointing of the Sick on Thursday, 27 August 7:00pm in the church.
Confessions will begin at 6:30pm and end at 8:30pm. Please take a number at the church entrance and be seated in the designated area.
All are welcome

Care and Concern Ministry
Our parish Care and Concern Ministry is here to support you with compassion and faith. If you or your loved ones are unable to attend Mass due to sickness, age, or mobility challenges, we would be honoured to bring the presence of Christ to you. We can arrange for someone to visit, share the Gospel, pray with you, and offer Holy Communion. You are not forgotten—you remain a vital part of our parish family.
Please contact the parish office so we can extend this ministry of care to you. Let us journey together in faith, hope, and love, even from home.
We warmly invite all parishioners to join us for a special event on Friday 28 August, the Feast Day of St Augustine. The evening will begin with a unique pilgrimage prayer walk, led by members of the College community, exploring the life and journey of St Augustine through various significant locations across St Augustine’s College.
Following the pilgrimage, guests will enjoy refreshments and an opportunity to connect with fellow parishioners and members of the College community before gathering in the Augustine Centre for a keynote presentation by Fr Saldie Resolado OSA. Fr Saldie will guide us in reflecting on how the papacy of Pope Leo XIV speaks to the heart of the Augustinian tradition: the search for truth, the gift of unity, the call to love, and the courage to serve with humility and hope.
We look forward to sharing this enriching evening with our parish community.
Please RSVP through the link below if you would like to join us for this special opportunity to learn more about St Augustine, Pope Leo XIV, the Augustinian Tradition, and the mission of St Augustine’s College.

Pray for Peace in the Middle East and the World
Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace, look with mercy upon the lands torn by conflict – Iran, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon and all the suffering places of the Middle East and the world.
Break the chains of hatred and violence; soften hardened hearts; guide the leaders of nations toward wisdom and justice.
Protect the innocent, comfort the grieving, heal the wounded and shelter the displaced.
Grant to every person the gift of true peace – peace in homes, peace in streets, peace in souls – so that swords may become ploughshares and the children of Abraham may live as one family.
Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us.
Did you know that every parishioner can access our parish subscription for free to Augustine Institute’s “FORMED” Catholic Streaming service, which offers trustworthy, high-quality content to nourish your relationship with Jesus Christ? We have received a report from Formed regarding the engagement of this wonderful resource by our parishioners and although many families are watching this Catholic content from more than 100 organisations to help explore their faith, many more could be taking up this subscription. Visit formed.org/signup to subscribe and select our parish, “Our Lady of the Southern Cross” to access these programs.
