Father in heaven,
may the faith you have given us
in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of charity enkindled
in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope
for the coming of your Kingdom.
May your grace transform us

In week 4, 68 young people attended Encounter Youth which is the most we’ve had in the last two years. We give back all the glory to God for his Goodness and Faithfulness. As we continue with the Alpha Youth Series, we ask for your prayers as we journey through this Lenten season. We are heading into week 7 and flowing on from last week where the young people explored who The Holy Spirit is, this week they’ll be looking at how they can be filled with the holy spirit. If you're in high school and are wondering what faith might look like for you, Encounter is the place for you. We have dinner, followed by games, praise, worship and great opportunities to go deeper in conversation with other young people. After Cyclone Alfred put a dampener on our plans to hold our Transformation Night on 8th March, we are excited to announce it’s back on for Saturday 5th April. The night will be an opportunity to encounter and be transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit and will include praise and worship, a teaching by Fr Nev, testimonies from current Encounter students and an opportunity to receive prayer from our prayer teams. As we reflect on the beautiful experience of our first Women's Spiritual Retreat, our hearts are filled with gratitude to each and every one of you who joined us. This gathering was more than just a retreat-it was a sacred space of connection, renewal and shared wisdom. 

From the moment we came together, there was a palpable sense of unity and purpose. Through heartfelt conversations, moments of reflection and shared experiences, we grew not only in spirit but also in community. Your openness, vulnerability and strength created an atmosphere of love and inspiration that will resonate far beyond this event. 

We hope the lessons, activities, insights and peace you discovered during this time stay with you in the days ahead. May you continue to walk with confidence, faith and the unwavering support of sisterhood we have built. 

Thank you for being part of this journey. This is only the beginning and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for our growing community.

Thanks to our enthusiastic volunteers who got up early on Ash Wednesday to distribute ashes to commuters at Springfield Central Train Station. It was a fruitful morning for Fr Nev and the team who gave ashes to around 50 people!

Do you feel called to serve our Lord in our Liturgical Ministries? Our parish is seeking volunteers to serve as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Proclaimers, Commentators and Altar Servers. These roles are a beautiful way to deepen your faith and actively participate in the Mass. Training will be provided. If you feel called to serve, please contact the parish office. Volunteers are needed for our fundraising BBQ for the upcoming Broncos versus Cowboys game on Friday 21^st March. Our BBQ’s are easy and fun and you can make some great friends! Both experienced and newcomers are very welcome. Please email olscbbqs@gmail.com to volunteer for this BBQ.

If you want to meet new people and have fun, head to Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School’s Trivia Night on Saturday, 22 March. You don't need to have a group of 8 to join in. They will be creating teams. This is the first chance to meet new people in the school community and have some fun. 

The Lenten season is a beautiful time to reconcile with God and reflect on His great love. To support young people in deepening their faith, the SPC Sisters are hosting a Youth Lenten Retreat filled with spiritual input, prayer, and engaging activities.

We warmly invite the youth of our parish to join this special event. It’s an opportunity to grow in faith, connect with others, and experience God’s presence in a meaningful way.

As we observe Lent, deepen your spiritual practice with our specially crafted Stations of the Cross beads. These devotional tools are designed to guide you through the 14 stations, fostering reflection on Christ’s Passion and strengthening your faith. They have a distinctive design with medals representing the 14 stations.  The cost is $40 and they are available in the Piety Store for a limited period.

We’re thrilled to share that ten new seminarians have begun their formation at the Holy Spirit Seminary this year. Among them is David Thorley, son of Joseph, who works in the parish office on Fridays. We congratulate David on this important step in his faith journey and assure him of our prayers and support.

May the Holy Spirit guide and strengthen all the seminarians as they follow God's call.

From Gethsemane to Calvary: Young Adults, mark your calendars for our Adoration vigil & campout event which will begin with the 7pm Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, and continue to the 3pm Celebration of the Lord’s Passion on Good Friday.

It's not too late to join our Life Groups for our Lenten Program. Lenten programs only just started last week. Life Groups are small groups in which we share life together, bring life to each other, build our faith life, and grow closer to Jesus Christ. Our Lenten Program this year is “Restore - Lent with Sr. Miriam James Heidland” and is a healing journey turning away from what wounds us and towards God who heals us and makes us whole!

Exciting news! The Brothers in Saburai are preparing for the grand opening of their new Monastery in April 2025. Their mission includes caring for the medical needs of the community, guiding 35 new brothers, and planning the Apostolate—a permanent home for those in need.

Reco Rally is back this year from 6pm on the 28^th of March at Lourdes Hill College, Hawthorne. This is an opportunity for young people to have a chance to have a deeper relationship with Jesus. There'll be Inspirational speakers, Praise and Worship and Reconciliation.  

You might notice something different about our bottle drop-off area. We have recently acquired two larger skip bins to store your container donations which will be emptied regularly by a pick-up agency. This will mean a slight change to the way you drop off containers. Going forward, can you please:

Please note that all glass wine and spirits bottles will be accepted by the pick-up agency, regardless of whether they display the 10c symbol. Please avoid donating probiotics yoghurt containers, 1L and 2L juice containers and milk bottles, laundry detergent bottles, and obviously no rubbish.

Continue supporting the poor and disadvantaged. Please bring your containers and place them in the bins outside the church, or use our Scheme ID number (C10063619) at any of the deposit sites around Queensland when you drop your bottles off.
