9 February 2025 – Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
“After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, ‘Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.’ Simon said in reply, ‘Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command, I will lower the nets.’ When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their nets were tearing.” Luke 5:4-6
Reflect today on the voice of God in your life. What do you sense He is calling you to do? What is the “deep water” into which He is inviting you? As you ponder this, focus on Peter’s words: “Master, at your command, I will lower the nets.”
Say “Yes” to the Lord’s call, even when it is difficult—especially when it feels challenging or uncertain. Trust in His command, and you will discover that in this act of faithfulness, God will bring forth an abundance of grace and blessings in your life.

Father in heaven,
may the faith you have given us
in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of charity enkindled
in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope
for the coming of your Kingdom.
May your grace transform us
into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel.
May those seeds transform from within both humanity and the whole cosmos
in the sure expectation
of a new heaven and a new earth,

Parish Discipleship Summit

This day is dedicated to deepening our faith and learning how to accompany others on their journey towards Christ. Be part of a movement to build a culture of discipleship in your parish! Alpha starts this weeked and the team are so excited for this season.
Alpha is the beginning! It’s the beginning of understanding your faith identity, or maybe you’re exploring becoming a Catholic or you maybe new to our parish community and you would like to grow in faith, then Alpha is where to begin your journey.
At Alpha we share a meal, watch a movie followed by a conversation allowing a safe space to ask any question.

The parish is pleased to invite children and their families to an Orientation for the 2025 Sacramental Journey, which includes preparation for Confirmation, Reconciliation, and First Holy Communion.

Preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion will take place in Term 3. This program is for children in Year 4 and above who have already received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Further details will be provided in due course.
Promulgation of the SYNOD24 Action Plans In response to the two highly successful SYNOD24 sessions in September and October 2024, Archbishop Mark Coleridge has promulgated the SYNOD24 Action Plans. Honouring the journey we have all been on since 2019, these 50 actions give clear guidance on how we, as the Archdiocese of Brisbane, can implement the Australian Plenary Council Decrees. This is a significant milestone for us all to celebrate, as the Archbishop explains in his introduction, "this is a document not just for some. It is for everyone; and I urge all parishes, communities, agencies and individuals to read and reflect upon the action plans and to be as creative as possible in implementing them." Southern Cross Kids
Southern Cross Kids (SCK) continues Children’s Liturgy of the Word for Primary School-aged children (Prep-Grade 6) during the Sunday 9am Mass.
Children will be led out of the Church to the Hub (next door) after the Holy Spirit song by our team of SCK volunteers to celebrate liturgically the Word of God together in an age-appropriate way through song, visual narrative, animated story-telling and reflection on the scriptures . It is an experience of prayer, of dialogue with God. Children will then be returned to the Church to join their families in time for the distribution of Holy Communion.

Also, we are looking for more helpers from our OLSC parish community, especially those parents/carers who have their children attend SCK, to join our Children's Ministry team and help our young ones to be nourished in their faith and continue to grow closer to Jesus through the Word. Southern Cross Catechesis
Southern Cross Catechesis returns this Sunday 9th February 10:15-11:15am for children in grades 3-6. Southern Cross Catechesis aims to continue the formation of our kids beyond the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and First Holy Communion), and nurture their relationship with Jesus in engaging sessions in a co-ed setting. OLSC Women’s Retreat - “I Am the Way”

OLSC Women’s Retreat fundraiser
Craving a delicious sausage or sweet treat! Join us for a sausage sizzle and bake sale next Sunday, 16th February, after the 9am mass.
We’ll once again be selling freshly cooked sausages, cold drinks and a variety of sweet treats. All proceeds will be used to subsidise the cost per person for a Catholic Women’s retreat hosted by our parish at Marian Valley at the end of February.
